HOTSPOT PITTI

EN

At the 108th edition of Pitti Uomo this past June, 740 brands presented themselves, 45% of which came from abroad. A total of 11,400 buyers were recorded, with international buyer numbers increasing by 3% compared to the previous year. Remarkably, for many buyers, the fair was not just an information platform but a clear order event.

Visitor numbers from non-European markets grew strongly—especially from the USA and China, followed by Japan, other Southeast Asian countries, as well as Australia, Brazil, India, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. CEO Raffaello Napoleone sees the fair’s role as a platform for new international top menswear buyers clearly confirmed.

The fair made strong statements through international collaborations—with CODE Korea, the Scandinavian Manifesto, J∞QUALITY (Japan), China Wave, and contributions from France, Spain, and Ukraine (Angel for Fashion). A new thematic area called “Becycle,” focused on bike-related fashion, was also introduced.

In terms of trends, innovation, sustainability, and the fusion of tradition and modern technology were the focus. Elegance meets comfort, footwear is becoming more creative, and personalization is increasingly central.

A highlight was the part-show, part-exhibition by guest of honor Issey Miyake, staged in an impressive setting with extraordinary looks—including pleated silhouettes, painterly nods to lemons and tomatoes, and playful outdoor presentations highlighting a nomadic, experience-driven approach. Guest designer Pitti PAF (Post Archive Faction) also presented an impactful runway show. Italian designer Niccolò Pasqualetti impressed with experimental cuts featuring military and workwear elements.

Florence clearly stands out as a location, with many impressive venues used for the mentioned catwalks and events. This benefits the industry as a whole, as it became clear at this edition of Pitti that after years of restraint, brands are again focusing on lifestyle and presenting themselves at relevant destinations to the professional audience.

Examples:
U.S. Polo Assn. marked its 135th anniversary with a strong presence and hosted a major open-air event on the second day of the fair at the historic Complesso di Santa Maria Novella, with over 1,500 guests. A truly beautiful location, hidden yet central in Florence, just 5 minutes from the fair. Dinner tables under the stars in a cloister courtyard surrounded by murals. Highlights included live acts by DJ Benny Benassi, singer Clara, and artist Pietro Terzini, along with a champagne bar and interactive screens.

While not an exhibitor, Tommy Hilfiger was present with a showcase for its 40th anniversary at the prestigious Palazzo Portinari next to the cathedral—with the designer himself attending. There was also a large turnout at the EENK brand event at LuisaViaRoma, attended by K-pop star Youngjae.

At the fair itself, Kiton staged its sub-brand KNT with a booth built around a boat; Ellesse debuted with an impressive booth featuring a replica tennis court, oversized racket, and a party setup in the evening; AlphaTauri invested in a high-end desert-look booth matching its current campaign.

In the sports and streetwear sector, numerous exhibitors impressed with creative collections and strong price-performance ratios, including GUESS Jeans with a new creative denim collection; Ice Cream with cheeky prints and strong creativity; Goorin Bros. from San Francisco with stylish caps; and Project X Paris and Weekend Offender with excellent value and creativity for young, trendy menswear.

T-shirt brands are also seeing a resurgence: Austrian label Baron Filou, founded in 2019, presented playful T-shirts and already collaborates with around 400 retail partners, mainly in the Netherlands, Italy, and Austria. Also a first-timer: Bell Surf, a surf brand from France inspired by California and Hawaii, primarily producing T-shirts and sweatshirts, seeking distribution partners in Belgium, Austria, and Germany.

Young Swiss streetwear label Othman exhibited for the first time on the top floor of Padiglione Centrale with two lines. Tops, jackets, and trousers in high-quality materials form a “streetwear with a classic touch.” They are seeking distribution partners throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Despite a politically and economically tense environment, the overall mood was optimistic. One thing is certain: events like Pitti are essential for the international fashion industry. Only they can generate the flair and creativity that inspire newcomers in retail and stimulate both buyers and end consumers to purchase.

FR
